Writing and Research Experience

I recently completed an ESRC-funded PhD studentship entitled The Secret Lives of Digital Museum Resources and Collections: Pedagogical Practice and Interactions with the Smithsonian’s Learning Lab, a collaborative research project with the University of Leicester and Smithsonian Office of Educational Technology. This PhD project investigated the ways in which school teachers and museum educators have used and interacted with the Learning Lab digital platform as part of their pedagogical practices, and how users of the platform have incorporated digital content from Smithsonian museums, libraries, archives and research institutions into their curricula and learning projects. More broadly, it reflected on the potential role of digital platforms in supporting pedagogical uses of digital museum objects.

I also have various other experience of research, writing and editing across a variety of platforms. Examples include writing and researching for the “Out in Oxford” trail based across the Oxford University Museums’ collections (a project funded by the National Lottery and Arts Council England), writing blog posts and articles on art history and politics, research and editing for Wilmington Publishing, as well as co-producing and editing podcasts for Resonance FM and SOAS Radio. Samples of my previous work can be found below:

Out in Oxford Trail (The Great Bookcase)

I researched Simeon Solomon and William Burges’ Great Bookcase for the Oxford University Museums’ “Out in Oxford” trail booklet. I also wrote and recorded an audio description for the accompanying app.

Articles

I have written blog posts on topics relating to art history, including:

Lygia Clark and the Notion of the Organic

I am also interested in issues around equality and have written about universal credit for Mute magazine.

Podcasts

I have also co-produced and edited podcasts for Resonance FM and SOAS Radio. For example, I compiled and edited a radio programme on the Celebrating Sanctuary festival on the South Bank, presented by Rita Ray.
